Indian Pass, Black Mtn. and the Cibola National Wildlife Refuge

11/11 - 12/2006

A trip to the area between the Chocolate Mountains in California and Yuma Arizona brought us
to the Black Mountain area which we explored aimlessly before heading onto the Indian Pass Trail that for
a while runs along the Colorado River before heading to Yuma. The Black Mountain area offers a number of
somewhat challenging trails and very colorful geology. Indian Pass is an easy trail but very picturesque
and fun. Much of the time it is in the open desert and part of the journey runs through the spectacular
Picacho State Recreation Area.  The following day we checked out the Cibola National Wildlife Refuge
The very easy trails run on both sides of the Colorado River and the beautiful area is a refuge for
migrating birds! A 591 mile weekend! Well worth the trip!
